Following the success of 12th Fail, actor Vikrant Massey is taking on a new role in The Sabarmati Report, in which he portrays a journalist who is desperate to learn the truth behind the Godhra event that occurred in 2002. Shobha Kapoor, Amul V. Mohan, Ektaa R. Kapoor, and Anshul Mohan support the Ranjan Chandel-directed movie, which also features Raashi Khanna and Ridhi Dogra. As excitement mounts for its November 15 release, the film has sparked divisive responses, with Vikrant himself coming under fire for his alleged secularism because of his involvement in the project.
Vikrant confronted these concerns head-on in an open discussion with Shubhankar Mishra on Unplugged, asking why people question his secular attitude. “A truly secular person supports people from all backgrounds, castes, and religions,” he said. Vikrant clarified that his ideals haven’t altered in light of social media’s divisive character. He views himself as a liberal who values variety above radicalism.
“Living together and respecting each other’s culture while taking pride in your own” is how Vikrant defined secularism when asked about it. He thinks that everything should be understood rather than categorised. He claimed that his brand of secularism entails embracing people without demeaning them or putting oneself up to make fun of them.
